This impressive natural wonder is the most visited waterfall in all of Ecuador. At 265 feet, the aqueous plunge truly shakes the earth, pouring millions of cubic feet of water per second into the pool below. The name, “The Devil’s Cauldron”, describes the large bowl at the base and notes the turbulent backlash of the falls.

Two incredible suspension bridges span the mountainous property of the Cascada el Pailón to create impressive views of the waterfall and surrounding landscape. The largest bridge is built sloping at a 30-degree angle, a feat of engineering found in only in a few locations worldwide. Adventure across these bridges and experience “new heights” in the amazon.

At the Cascada el Pailón, we have created a haven for the incredible birds of the rainforest and have conserved much of the natural vegetation. With the help of experts, we’ve cultivated vegetation that attracts some of the most amazing birds like Cock of the Rock to the property. Our beautiful flora also blooms year-round thanks to the wonderful climate of the cloud forest. Check out the hydrangea blooms and orchids to start!

This smaller, “pre-waterfall” is nothing to discount! Although not as famous, this 50-foot fall acts as a dramatic precursor to the upcoming plunge. It’s at this point that the Rio Verde makes its first funnel and passes through the black volcanic rock shoot into the Emerald Lagoon.

The property is on a peninsula, defined by two rivers – the Rio Verde and the Rio Pastaza. Although it is really a peninsula, the “Isla” nickname stuck after a major flood in 1952 made the property into a temporary island! The river ran so powerful that the water never turned the bend and instead shot straight across the peninsula and plunged directly off the 300-foot cliff into the Pastaza. Although the river has since returned to its natural course, the old-timers still refer to their impression of an island.

The Canyon of the Elves separates San Miguel from the Pailón del Diablo waterfalls. The beautiful emerald color, which comes from the underlying green rocks, carries a sense of tranquility and peace. But don’t be fooled! The tranquility of the lagoon quickly turns into the powerful plunge of the Pailón del Diablo waterfall.
